The Area

The picturesque village of HERMANUS is situated in the Overberg region, about 140 km from Cape Town. Greater Hermanus stretches from Fisherhaven in the west to Voëlklip in the east. The centre of town overlooks Walker Bay.

Hermanus is built where the mountains and sea meet, offering residents and visitors a unique taste of the natural splendour of the Western Cape. During July to November, magnificent whales visit Walker Bay to give birth and copulate. Cliff paths have been specially built along the coast to allow everyone a view of these gentle giants playing in the bay.

Hermanus is also home to the only whale crier in the world. During whale season the whale crier blows a code on a kelp horn to indicate where whales were last seen, pointing visitors in the right direction for the best views of the whales.

Wine tasting, horse riding, arts and crafts markets, speciality shops, restaurants, pottery studios, fishing, bird watching, mountain biking and nature reserves - this is but a taste of what Hermanus has to offer. The Fernkloof Nature Reserve covers the entire mountain behind the town, providing an idyllic setting for spectacular walks among the splendour of the fynbos floral kingdom.

Play a game of golf on our soon-to-be 27-hole course while admiring the stunning mountains. For the adventurous, there are numerous activities such as scuba diving, boardsailing, sea and river kayaking, paragliding or great white shark diving to keep the adrenalin pumping.

Exquisite beaches are found along the coastline near the suburbs of Hawston, Vermont, Onrust River, Sandbaai, and VoŽlklip. Hawston and Grotto beaches have been awarded Blue Flag status, meaning they comply with international standards regarding beach safety, cleanliness and environmental awareness. Lagoons at Klein River and Onrust River attract all manner of water sports.

The climate in Hermanus is Mediterranean with most of the rainfall in winter and long sunny days in summer. The town of Hermanus is self-contained, with all the necessary businesses conveniently situated. A variety of restaurants cater for all tastes and pocket sizes.

Hermanus Guesthouse is the latest addition to the town. Comfortable, convenient and remarkable value for money, Hermanus Guesthouse is a superlative holiday destination, whether for singles, couples, families or groups of delegates. Hermanus Guesthouse is your home away from home, with good old-fashioned hospitality the order of the day, ensuring you will undoubtedly return year after year.
