The Area
The picturesque village of Hermanus is situated in the
Overberg region, about 140 km from Cape Town. Greater
Hermanus stretches from Fisherhaven in the west to Voëlklip in
the east. The centre of town overlooks Walker Bay.

Hermanus is built where the mountains and sea meet,
offering residents and visitors a unique taste of the natural
splendour of the Western Cape. During July to November,
magnificent whales visit Walker Bay to give birth and
copulate. Cliff paths have been specially built along the
coast to allow everyone a view of these gentle giants playing in
the bay.

Hermanus is also home to the only whale crier in the
world. During whale season the whale crier blows a code
on a kelp horn to indicate where whales were last seen, pointing
visitors in the right direction for the best views of the
whales.
Wine tasting, horse riding, arts and crafts markets,
speciality shops, restaurants, pottery studios, fishing, bird
watching, mountain biking and nature reserves - this is but a
taste of what Hermanus has to offer. The Fernkloof Nature Reserve
covers the entire mountain behind the town, providing an idyllic
setting for spectacular walks among the splendour of the fynbos
floral kingdom.
