Southern Right Whale Charters

Experience the gentle giants of the ocean up close, at an ethical distance, from purpose-built catamarans. Southern Right Whale Charters operates in Hermanus during peak whale season – from June to end November.

Hermanus Cliff Path

Stretching across 12 kilometres of rocky coastline, winding through indigenous vegetation and passing the front of our property, Hermanus Cliff Path is renowned for its land-based whale watching opportunities.

Hermanus Country Market

Saturday mornings in Hermanus are reserved for the country market. Since 2006, it has been a weekly highlight for locals and tourists alike. Pop in between 8 AM and noon for artisanal baked goods, fresh produce, and live music.

Grotto Beach

Stretches 18 kilometres from the Blue Flag area to De Kelders, Grotto Beach is ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and long strolls. With mountains as the backdrop, this endless stretch of beach is equal parts scenic and lively.

Fernkloof Nature Reserve

Fernkloof Nature Reserve spans 1,800 ha in the fynbos-rich Kleinrivier Mountains. With 60 km of hiking trails, coastal views, and wildlife like sugarbirds, klipspringers, and dassies, it’s a must for nature lovers in Hermanus.

Old Harbour Museum

Hermanus grew around its Old Harbour – now a provincial heritage site and one of few fishing harbours that are still intact worldwide. Today, the Old Harbour Museum and its wooden boats keep this lively hub rich in history and charm.

Set in a historic cottage on Victoria Square, Hemingways Bookshop exudes the charm of a bygone era. With a resident author, two lazy cats, and shelves of eclectic reads, it’s possibly South Africa’s quirkiest bookshop.

Penguins at Stony Point – Betty’s Bay

Stoney Point in Hermanus’s neighbouring town, Betty’s Bay, is one of the best places to see the endangered African penguin. A boardwalk through the breeding grounds, allows visitors to watch them swim, nest, and waddle.

Harold Porter National Botanical Garden – Kleinmond

Harold Porter National Botanical Garden showcases the splendour of the Cape’s coastal fynbos. Situated 30 minutes outside Hermanus in Kleinmond, the gardens are well-worth the visit. 

Hermanus Golf Club

Boasting scenic ocean and mountain views, the 27-hole golf course is in excellent condition. Wildlife can be spotted while playing the course, and it’s not uncommon to see grysbok and other antelope while teeing off.

Eco Marine Boat Trips

Eco Marine Boat Trips offer family-friendly experiences. The gentle 90-minute boat ride navigates its way around the Walker Bay coast in search of marine life, particularly southern right whales.

Pearly Beach, 60 km from Hermanus, is ideal for guided horse-riding tours. Trails lead through fynbos, dune forests, and farmlands, with options like full moon rides, champagne sundowners, and even seasonal swims with the horses.
